Cricket ( BBL and WBBL)
Cricket is widely regarded as Australia’s national summer sport and is one of the first organized sports in the country
The sport is deeply rooted in history and culture of the nation. The Boxing Day Test match, held annually on December 26, is the most popular sporting event of the summer, and The Ashes, played between England and Australia, is one of the most anticipated and followed sporting events in the country.
Aussie’s Demolish England in the Ashes
2022 is off to a great start for Australian sports fans. The Test Cricket team dismantled their English opponents with a 4-0 series win at the Ashes. England’s only respite was a draw in the fourth Test of the series, which provided little relief for the sweeping Aussie. Australia retained the Ashes for the third time in a row and England left our shores empty-handed.
Scott Boland’s performance was the highlight of the series. Boland became the second Indigenous player to represent Australia in Test Cricket and made his mark at the Ashes. In an impressive series, Boland took 18 wickets in all, including six on his Test debut at the MCG.

Progressive expansion of physical resources
While the AIS’s work initially focused exclusively on Canberra and covered only 8 sports, over the last 25 years there has been a progressive expansion of expertise to all Australian states and many more sports. Thus, there are currently 35 sports for which athletes can receive scholarships and specialist centers now exist in most major Australian cities, including Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth and the Gold Coast. These complement the work carried out by the AIS in Canberra.
In addition, each state has its own Institute of Sports where athletes who train at the specialty center in that state or as individual scholarships can be given an experience comparable to that originally only found in the AIS in Canberra. athletes.
