Puggle Shar-Pei Mix Dog: Characteristics
- Appearance: cute, very wrinkled all over, starting on the head and ending on the body itself. He has half bug eyes, lovely triangular ears, a «fleshy,» heavy muzzle, and a strong muscular corset. Just by looking at it, it’s easy to see that it has a Pug face and a Shar-Pei body. The most common color palette: brown, fawn, cream and beige. One of the most noticeable things is her blue-black tongue, clearly visible on a scorching hot day.
- Temperament: it’s hard to predict who a Shar-Pei Puggle mix dog is going to notice more: his mighty Shar-Pei or his agile Puggle parent. If it notices the former, then you can expect very profound viewing behavior. If they go for the latter, expect the puppy to be very animated, affectionate and snoring (so invest in good earplugs). Puggle Shar-Pei mix friends are very loving and loyal to their family, but a bit reserved with complete strangers. Therefore, if your friends are coming to your house for the first time, it is important that you give your big dog a few minutes to get to know the newcomers. It is best to show by example that whoever is stepping into your territory is welcome: show affection to your guest and the dog will follow your example. And if Shar-Peis remember their scent, it would not be a problem for them to recognize the person again when they arrive. They do much better in a home with grown children who are taught how to behave around dogs. They can learn from their two-legged siblings and teach them something in return.
- Need for Exercise: The Shar-Pei Puggle mix is a moderately active breed. Since his parent breeds are a very energetic Puggle and a gentler Shar-Pei, a hybrid pup’s exercise needs wouldn’t be too demanding: 40 minutes to an hour of exercise. He can benefit greatly from mixing with other canine members, and early socialization is a guarantee that a Shar-Pei Pug Beagle Mix will develop into a well-behaved, mentally stable dog.
- Health: many of the Puggle Shar-Pei mix puppies develop the specific ailments of their ancestors. The main health concerns are eye diseases: cataracts, glaucoma, retinal detachment, entropion and others. The risk of developing this doubles as the hybrid puppy has both Pug and Shar-Pei genes. Each of these dog breeds is prone to developing various peeping problems.
Also, Puggle Pei pooches can be born with respiratory diseases, cardiovascular diseases, hip disorders, thyroid problems and even develop epilepsy. Puggle DNA is mostly to blame for them.
